Mercy & Justice

But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. - Amos 5:24

AT VERITAS

MERCY & CRISIS CARE TEAM

God has called us to care for those in need, especially those in our own body of believers (Galatians 6:10). Many times we do this simply by helping one another, bringing meals, and offering words of encouragement, but there are also a number of ongoing physical, monetary, and transportation needs for our members. We send out crisis situations to the whole body via email, but also have an internal team of people led by the Deacon of Mercy that continually helps to coordinate, fulfill, and/or make decisions on these needs. We also created a temporary crisis committee in response to the pandemic. If you're interested in helping in a specific way or having a more invested role, please contact Deacon Mike Squire!

FOSTER CARE

We currently have a number of families who are licensed foster parents. They welcome vulnerable children into their homes, often for an extended period of time and with little notice. If you aren't already connected with one of these families and would like to specifically provide help and support when they receive a placement, please contact Deacon Mike!

HOW CAN WE HELP?

IN OUR COMMUNITY

Below are a few of the many local organizations that provide opportunities to minister to others through sharing the gospel and showing justice and mercy to our neighbors. There are always needs for volunteers as well as financial donations.

VICTORY PROJECT

Victory Project (VP) is a privately funded Dayton after school program, mentoring disengaged young men in our city with a 3E curriculum - Education (academic tutoring), Entrepreneurship (micro-enterprises/finances), and Enlightenment (biblical focus/family environment). VP is a strategic partner for Veritas, as we seek to show mercy and do justice for young men in our community that are seeking to break cycles of poverty. VP is always in need of weekly tutors, help with monthly meals, financial donations, or even volunteering with special skills. If you’re interested, contact Bethany!

YOUNG LIFE

Young Life is a world-class ministry for adolescents. Our staff and volunteers enter the world of kids in middle school and high school, focusing on what matters to them — fun, adventure, friendship and a sense of significance. In doing so, we earn the privilege of talking to them about something that we think matters most of all — the truth about Jesus Christ. A key component of supporting Young Life is through the Adult Support Team. This committee provides support to YL through prayer, event support, leader care, and much more; contact Geoff to learn more!

HER STORY

Her Story helps women go from active addiction to active recovery through a holistic, faith-based approach to recovery. The Her Story House dramatically accelerates the rate of women receiving treatment for their drug and/or alcohol addiction. By providing 24/7 supervision, case management, detox assistance, a warm bed, meeting their basic needs and more, Her Story is recognized as an innovative leader in the recovery community. A great way to support Her Story is through donating, or female volunteers to spend time with the women in recovery; contact Sandi if you’re interested!

NO LONGER STRANGERS

No Longer Strangers (NLS) is a local ministry that serves the large refugee and immigrant community residing in our city. NLS seeks to offer genuine Christian friendship to the international community as they learn to live in a new country and to support them through Christ-centered programs and services that promote spiritual, educational, physical and emotional growth. There are numerous ways to help including tutoring, transportation, financial, administrative, or family support; contact Bashar if you’re interested!
